Sources vs. Knowledge Base Entries

Understanding the difference between your source library and knowledge base entries.

Sources vs. Knowledge Base Entries

Stoke has two distinct ways video content is used in generation: as a source you select per draft, or as a knowledge base entry that's always present for a given platform. Understanding the difference will help you get better results.

Sources

Sources are your full video library. Every video you've imported lives here. A source is raw material. When you create a draft, you manually select which sources you want the AI to draw from for that specific piece of content.

Think of sources as the input: "For this LinkedIn post, I want the AI to use this interview I recorded last Tuesday."

Knowledge Base Entries

Knowledge base entries are sources you've designated as persistent context for a specific platform. They are not the main content being repurposed; they are guidance. Examples of good knowledge base entries:

  • A video where you explain your core philosophy or methodology, so every LinkedIn post reflects your point of view.
  • A video that captures your brand voice and tone, so scripts consistently sound like you.
  • A video covering your standard framework or process, so generated content always references it correctly.

Knowledge base entries are managed in the Knowledge Base section of the sidebar, where you assign them per platform (LinkedIn, X, Short Scripts, Long Scripts, Newsletter).

How They Work Together

When you generate a draft, the AI uses both your selected sources (the main material) and any active knowledge base entries for that platform (the persistent context). You can toggle individual knowledge base entries on or off on the Create New page if they're not relevant to a particular draft.

A Simple Way to Think About It

  • Sources = the video you're repurposing today.
  • Knowledge base entries = the videos that teach the AI who you are and how you communicate.
